Dreams Can Change, and That's Okay: A Letter to My Younger Self
As we approach the end of 2024, I’ve been reflecting on the lessons and moments that have shaped my journey this year. One of my favorite things I shared here was this letter to my younger self - a reminder that dreams can change, and that’s okay.
It’s a message I’ve carried with me, especially in moments of doubt or uncertainty. This year has been full of growth, challenges, and new opportunities, and revisiting this post feels like the perfect way to close the year.
I hope it resonates with you. And as we step into 2025, here’s to embracing change, growth, and new dreams:
Dreams Can Change, and That's Okay: A Letter to My Younger Self 💫
You’re 19 years old. What a year it’s been.
The accident happened, and it was the worst thing - not just because of the injuries, grief, and numbness that followed, but also because it killed your love for the sport you worked so hard to become a professional athlete in. It’s not bringing you the same joy anymore, but who are you without the thing that has always defined you as a person? Where do you go from here?
It’s okay to feel a little lost – you don’t need to have everything figured out just yet. But I’m going to let you in on some spoilers about the next couple of chapters…
⭐️ It's okay for your dreams to change. Let yourself grow, try new things, and imagine a future that excites you. Let your ambitions soar without holding back. It's good to have a strong vision for what you want - even though you might not know how to get there yet.
⭐️ The circle of people you define yourself by may change, too. You will meet people who won’t understand your goals, or who feel uncomfortable with how openly you express yourself. Their discomfort does not reflect your worth. Just you wait - you’re going to meet some wonderful humans from all over the world that share similar passions, that chase their own goals with the same energy and drive that you possess. Surround yourself with these people who inspire you and push you to grow. They’re certainly not your competition - they’re examples of what’s possible through hard work.
⭐️ During your journey, there will be (many) times when you doubt yourself, especially as you adjust to new environments, new job roles, new directions. But with time, you'll realize your value and the contributions you make. You'll learn that you can't please everyone, and that's okay. Focus on being authentic and pursuing what makes you feel whole.
So here's to embracing change, cherishing the journey, and living a purposeful (work)life.
Love,
Your Future Self!
